11) Area Governor's Report
The Rotaract group met last Friday. Melissa Campbell is the lead person. For World Polio Day, they shared facts about Polio on their website to bring awareness to Polio.
The group contacted the Horizon Achievement centre to sell Fab Fall tickets in their cafeteria. Money raised will go to the Every Women's centre to help/adopt families for Christmas.
They are planning a bake sale and collecting coats. There may be an opportunity for the Interact and Rotaract to collaborate on similar drives/community events.
They are looking at some international projects. CBU contributes $900 to the Rotaract club for supplies such as t-shirts and other swag for Rotaract. We would like to encourage some of the Rotaract members to attend our Rotary meetings. (potential Rotarians).
President's Council will be meeting this Thursday at 7:00 at BP.
Ribfest is looking for a chair.
Gina is continuing the discussion with the Centre of Education (formerly Cape Breton Victoria Regional School Board) on the Youth event (Mitch Dorge).Waiting to hear back from the school principals. They are on the organizing committee. Mitch does one talk per day. Possibly have him visit Eskasoni to reach the Mi'kmaw students. This is for grades 9-12 and possibly some junior high students. This will be held in late spring. If there are other costs to bring him to Eskasoni such as venue costs, Laurianne said that her organization will cover them.
Bob raised a concern about the AG's travel expenses which should be discussed at the President's meeting.
12) President's Report
We will be having our Christmas Party on December 5 (7:00) at Breton Brewing. It will be $10 per person. Mark will be preparing finger foods. This will be a good spot to bring potential Rotarians or spouses.
An email will be sent out for someone to volunteer to host our next directors' meeting. Gord said his house and the restaurant are available if needed.
Crossroads is looking for volunteers to drive their vans to transport clients. If interested, please contact Colleen MacKenzie. Every February, Crossroads has an appreciation dinner for employees. The next will be held on February 27, 2019. Our club will likely sponsor the event and volunteer to serve. The kitchen will come up with a cost and get back to us with the cost.
The Rotary Foundation is being acknowledged as the best charitable in the world. More information will be shared at a later date.
