Director's Meeting Sept. 20th, 2018

Minutes

In Attendance:  Gina, Dave, Todd, Joe, Alister, Bob, John, Darren, Brandon, Scott

Topics Discussed

  • Next Tuesday we will talk about organizing committees.  Suggestion to start from 'ground zero'.  Dismantle groups and start fresh.

  • Gord's place next  Thursday for chicken bake.  22 people confirmed so far.

  • Budget was discussed, as it has been already spent.  Alister sent around the balance sheet from 2017/18 showing a loss of $8200.  Those investment specialists sure know how to spend eh Todd

  • Curling event was brought up.  Discussed turning it into a fundraiser, as we are in need of one.

  • Letter from Eskasoni school was passed around.  A very nice gesture, thanking the club for the $1000 scholarship given.

  • Awareness of the charity aspect of Ribfest was mentioned.  It is felt by the people in the room that Ribfest may be seen mainly as just a food event and we need to change this perception.

  • Kettles project is fast approaching so we will look forward to that in late November and into December.

  • October 24th is fast approaching as well (Polio vaccine day)

  • Another Crossroads event is upcoming in January that we may want to get involved in.  Appreciation dinner for business owners that help them with space and finances.

  • Dues were discussed.  It is felt that what dues go towards and the importance may not be properly explained.  Brandon suggested doing a confirmation letter in May to lock down who is staying on for the upcoming year (July 1st is the start of a new year)

Round Table

Laurianne - talked about the Rod Christie survey.  She let us know that she contacted Eskasoni Interact club to keep her informed on their upcoming meetings and such.  Also suggested a photo montage for classification speeches in the future.

Bob - put a motion to replace the Rotary sign on the Esplande ($140), as it is missing the wheel.  Joe second and all were in favor.

John- discussed the importance of getting new members engaged.  Looking at spring for a wine tasting at his house.  Possibly a fundraiser.

Darren - told everyone present to get familiar with Club Runner.  Great tool that we pay $400+ annually for, take advantage.

Brandon - offered his time after the next couple Tuesday meetings to help members with getting more familiar with Club Runner.

Gina - has a training in Halifax  coming up that she will bring back to the club.  Discussed that 100 year anniversary of the club is coming up in 2020 and we need to buckle down and start booking.  Gina was very pleased with the great turnout for the CBU Rotoract sign up.  Had upwards of 50 students.  She also talked very highly of Melissa Campbell and how eager she has been so far.

Scott - Christmas party brought up.  Do we want to do Breton Brewery again?  What date?

Dave - talked about how when committees are set up but end up being only run by one or two people.  This needs to change and we need to bring in the next generation of members to lead committees.

Todd - need to bring back the classification talks.

Joe - we need more projects.  We have discussed some but we need to get them off the ground.

Christine - we need better communication of who is in what committee.
