Chairperson:

Brandon

Attendance: 9 Members

1) The 4-Way Test

2) Personal Reflection

3) Rotary Minute

Scott advised that the month of June is Fellowship Month for Rotary. Usually, we would have our Club's lobster party in June, but due to COVID-19 we cannot have it. However, technology is helping our club to continue its fellowship with our weekly Zoom meetings.

Brandon noted that June is also Pride Month. He also noted that Rotary International has recently made a statement on Twitter with regard to the current protests taking place (see below):

8) Committee Reports

Rotary Park Paper Chase
    Scott:
  • We have the okay from CBRM to go ahead with this event. CBRM cannot supply us with gloves or garbage bags this year because of COVID-19, we will have to get our own. We will still need to coordinate with CBRM to do the main pickup at the end of the clean-up. Gord suggested getting the grabbers from the Ribfest locker.
  • After group discussion, it was decided that the Paper Chase event will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2020, beginning at 9 AM, at Rotary Park.
  • Scott and Brandon will prepare a communication to invite the other clubs and to also invite members of the public to join.

Directors' Meeting Last Week
   Brandon:
  • The Directors would like to focus on ratifying the changes to our Club Bylaws that we have been working on for some time
  • The Directors are planning on having our Club's Annual General Meeting during our last regular club meeting in June. We will send out the required notices but we ask that you expect the last Tuesday meeting in June to be our Club's Annual General Meeting
  • The Directors also spoke about our Club's Committees and appointing heads of those Committees

Fundraising in upcoming fiscal year
   Dave Risk:
  • Raised the issue that fundraising this year will probably be difficult as a result of COVID- 19. Most likely there will be no Fab Fall fundraiser this year because ticket selling will be a concern, as the groups that normally sell may not be active. Accordingly, we might need to look at our club's residual funds to get us through the next year. Lisa suggested perhaps brainstorming an alternative fundraiser to the Fab Fall.
  • The Directors should focus on budget and fundraising and having the budget approved for the first meeting of the new fiscal year.
  • John asked if there would be any government grants available to our club.

District AGM:

   Christine:
  • The District AGM was held on Friday, May 29, 2020. Darren, Bob, and Christine attended from our Club. There were some technical difficulties as the meeting was held via Zoom for the first time. It was limited to 100 participants. Voting for the representative to serve on the RI Council of Legislation was not working, and as a result, there was further voting following the AGM, via email.

13) Guest Speaker

Jack D'Orsay, from the Sydney Sunrise Club.

He shared a PowerPoint presentation on the Sunrise Club's Armenia project. In October 2019, he and other members went to Armenia for project assessment, to meet and collaborate with other Clubs (funded by a District Grant).

The Sunrise Club was involved in a project that funded the purchase of medical equipment for Norc Hospital in Armenia, which was built in the 1950s (funded by a Global Grant). It has about 300 beds and is dedicated to infectious diseases and treatment. It has never had a general upgrade of its equipment, that project is now complete.

Sunrise Club is developing a project for a medical mission for Ian Doyle in Armenia in June 2022. They are also looking into another project for a maternity hospital in Armenia.

Jack is going to come back to our club another time and speak about the next project they are planning.
