Attendance: 13 Members + 1 Guest Speaker

1) The 4-Way Test

3) Rotary Minute

Scott: Today's guest speaker, Jillian Gibson, is speaking with respect to the Rotary Foundation. Accordingly, it is interesting to note that Bill Gates is a strong supporter of Rotary Foundation. To date he has sponsored approximately $1.6 Billion to the Rotary Foundation. Interestingly, there is also a Ted talk that Bill Gates gave in 2015 regarding a pandemic coming.

8) Committee Reports

Scott:

-update on proposed Paper Chase at the entrances of Rotary Park sometime in June: Scott has now surveyed the entrances and reports that they are in bad shape; there is lots of garbage to pick up. He also advised that the tree our Club planted at the main entrance of Rotary Park is no longer standing. He will have more information about the Paper Chase to come.

Bob:

- With respect to the upcoming District Annual General Meeting on Friday, May 29, 2020 at 6:30 PM, our Club should select the delegates who will represent and vote for our Club at the Meeting (via Zoom). There was discussion as to who Our Club's delegates should be, suggesting the incoming President and Secretary. Scott advised the Nomination Committee will be in a position to present their nominations for the Executive next week. The Club will wait to see what the Nomination Committee presents and then select our delegates for the AGM.

 Scott:

- asked if we are providing scholarship money for the Eskasoni schools this year. This is something we have done in the past. Shawn noted schools are closing in early June so we will need to make a decision quickly.

- Scott made the following motion:

Our club shall give $1000.00 to Allison Bernard Memorial High School for scholarships this school year.

Dave R. seconded the motion.

A vote was held and the Motion was approved.

Club Budget:

- There was discussion about this year's Club budget. It was noted that a Club Budget had been prepared and was brought before the Board of Directors for approval last summer; however, without a quorum, it was never approved and never brought before the membership.

Directors' Meeting

- there will be a Directors' Meeting this Friday, May 15, 2020 at noon (via Zoom). Brandon will set up the Zoom call.

Bob:

- On May 1, 2020, our Club marked 100 years as a chartered Rotary Club!!!! The RI President opened his remarks during last Thursday's Zoom call by recognizing Our Club's 100 year anniversary!!

Brandon:

- identified all the Anniversaries on Clubrunner, as set out below in the Bulletin

11) Area Governor's Report

Gina:

(a) There is a President's Council meeting for the District this Thursday evening.

(b) The District is looking for a comprehensive report from each club for the Annual General Meeting of our District which is going to be held at the end of the month. Our submissions for the report are due this Friday. Gina has already sent the request to our Club President and Secretary. Bob advised that he will have a draft of our club's activities for Brandon.

(c) The District is also looking for a list of activities from all the clubs by this Friday. Brandon has posted a chart in Slack, listing the activities of our club for the year. Members can add to the list if they wish.

(d) The District's Annual General Meeting would normally be held during the District Conference; however, because there is no conference this year, the AGM is being held on Friday, May 29 at 6:30 PM via Zoom. They are asking as many Rotarians as possible to attend. There will still be voting as at a regular AGM.

(e) With respect to our district merging with another district, there is a committee in charge of this process. The committee will be sending information to all clubs as this process evolves. If you have any questions in the interim, please ask Gina. Gina has emailed an update to those members of our Club who were curious for more information on this. Bob acknowledged receipt same. He raised a concern with managing a District so large.

12) President's Report

- Shawn received an email from Linda Crockett of the Sydney Morning Club. She asked if anyone from our Club had been in contact with Nova Scotia Lands with respect to renaming the field at Open Hearth Park as Rotary Field. Shawn is going to speak with Gord and Kevin Armstrong to find out the latest on this project. John noted our club's logo was supposed to be put on the Rotary Field for our 100 year anniversary, and there's no reason why this still can't be done.

13) Guest Speaker

Today's guest speaker was Jillian Gibson of the Rotary Foundation. She is on the Rotary Foundation Committee for our District. Her presentation was recorded. In her presentation, she recognized both Bob and Gord for their service to the Rotary Foundation. The link to Jillian's presentation can be found at:
