Rotary Minute

  • Rot. Hoyles reflected on what can be accomplished when Rotarians work together with good faith and comradarie.
  • Rot. Gord explained to the prospective members the advantages of membership in a Rotary Club

Introduction of Visiting Rotarians

  • None

Introduction of Guests

  • Olubunmi Duduyemi, who recently graduated from McGill with a Ph.D. in animal science.
  • Adam Carmichael for his second meeting.

Adoption of Agenda

  • MOTION by Rot. Dave that the agenda be accepted as presented, with the addition of a discussion about an International Project and discussion about collaboration with the Rotary Club of Sydney Sunrise. Seconded by Rot. John. Motion Carried. 

Acceptance of Minutes from Previous Meeting

  • MOTION by Rot. Dave that the minutes of the May 14 meeting be approved. Seconded by Rot. John. Motion Carried.

Committee Reports

  • Golf Tournament
    • Rot. Hoyles reported: Rots. Hoyles, Bob, Tharanee and Gord attended the latest Golf Tournament committee. The event is Sept. 25.  Protocase is sponsoring the dinner and two teams. Rot. Hoyles invited the prospective members Bunmi, Adam and Charles to help.
    • Rot. Keith has sent an email that he is available to assist with this year's golf tournament in any way possible, sponsoring a hole and providing additional graphics for social media. Maybe enrolling a team.  Rot. Keith will also check with his photographer to see if he is available for a few hours on the day. 

Breakfast Program

  • June 12 Rots. Hoyles and Anush will attend
  • June 19 Rots. Dave and Alfred will attend

Review Action Register 

  • The memory is full. Rot. Hoyles will consult Rot. Brandon about how to correct this. 

An Action Register is a register of commitments made by Rotarians. One is maintained for both the General Membership and the Directors.

Old Business

  • Ronald McDonald House Walk for Kids
    • Rot. Hoyles will go to Sobeys tomorrow night to pick up the hot dogs, condiments, etc. Rot. Hoyles reported that Rot. Bob has arranged for Riverview Interact students to help with the preparation and serving.
  • Onboarding prospective members
    • Rot. Hoyles reported that in the next few weeks a Fireside Chat will be organized. It was observed that neither  Rots. Danielle nor Anush attended a Fireside Chat. 

New Business

  •  Better liaison with RCSS
    • Last week, on Friday evening, the RCSS invited us to help paid the steel plant Ladle situated where Open Hearth Park meets Prince Street. Unfortunately, due to the late notice, we didn't participate. We need to work toward better liaison with the RCSS.
  • International Project
    • Rot. Gord reported that PDG Ian Doyle will be visiting us to invite the RCOS to participate in providing a dental clinic in Nigeria. The plan is to access a Global Grant from RI. Rot. Gord also told the prospective members about his experience in Nigeria with the RI President at the time.
  • Scholarships
    • Rot. Bob provided an email to say that the scholarship cheques have been delivered to Eskasoni, Riverview and Sydney Academy.

  • On behalf of Rot. John, Rot. Donnie selected the Queen of Spades. 

Meeting Host (Happy/Sad Fines, Ticket Draw, Distribution of Meeting Fines)

  • Happy Fine for Rot. Hoyles who announced that Bilynda is retiring from Registrar at CBU. Rot Hoyles attended the CBU Convocation and witnesses Bilynda installing the third Chancellor of the university. On top of all that, Bilynda and Hoyles are celebrating 28 years of marriage on June 20!
  • Happy Fine for  Rot. Donnie beginning his one-year term as President of the Bermuda-Nova Scotia Regional Council of The United Church of Canada
  • Happy Fine for Rot. Danielle who is grateful that Rot. Hoyles hosted our Lobster/Steak Party last Sunday.
  • Happy Fine for Rot. Tharanee who had two daughters graduate from university on the same day
  • Happy Fine for Dr. Bunmi who just graduated with his Ph.D.
