Rotary Minute

  • Rot. Bob summarized the article The Sherlock Holmes of Rotary.  In this article we learn The Rotary Foundation received a perfect score of 100 for financial health, accountability and transparency - indicating the organization is using its donations effectively and donors can give with confidence.

New Business

 
  • Invitation from Rot. Michele from Sunrise to join their monthly social.  This Friday, January 26th at the French Club on Ferry St. in Sydney.
 
  •  Upcoming speakers Feb. 7th representing the Revitalization of Bernie MacNeil field to create a hub and official Little League field.
 
  • Request for funding from a group looking to build happy pillowcases for sick children.  Request for $500 and Vetting Committee has received their completed form.
 
  • President Hoyles informed the club of an important meeting "The Impact of Transportation Costs on Life and Work in Cape Breton" in hopes of getting a railway back in Nova Scotia.  Learn more by watching this video:  http://dev.scotiarail.ca

  • Rot. John recently returned from 3 lovely weeks in New Zeland, and he reported that he missed us dearly
  • Rot. Ayse happily reported that the Republic of Turkey, in its 100th year, sent its first astronaut into space.
  • Rot. Scott sadly reported that long serving local accountant Basil Harnish has passed at the age of 85.

  • Rot. Ayse is celebrating two years as a member of the club this week.
 
President's Remarks (Directors' Meetings, District News, Special Reports)
  • Thanks to Rot. Ayse for continuing us through the strategic planning session.  Also a reminder to attend the railway meeting mentioned earlier.

  • Rot. Bob has taken the training for the district grants.  Rot. Ayse reported she is signed up to take this training.  Thanks to both members for stepping up for the club.
