13) Guest Speaker

Jack D'Orsay:

  • In his last presentation to our club, he discussed past work they have done in Armenia. Last year, there were $16,000 contributed by the three local clubs to the Joint Committee, and because of that, the Foundation sent approximately $57,200 USD to Clubs in Armenia to buy material and equipment and deliver them to a hospital
  • In today's presentation, he is going to speak about what's to come for projects in Armenia.
  • For 2022-2021, they are working on a smaller version of the hospital project they did last year, for a different hospital. The equipment for this project's costs approximately $41,000 USD. He does not expect they will be able to get government grants to match the funding like they did last time.
  • He is asking the three local clubs to donate at least $3500 each. This will give them enough to finance this hospital project. They are still going to approach other District clubs for money which will be used to go toward Ian's humanitarian project which will be in Armenia in 2021 - 2022.
  • he is going to forward our club the list of the medical equipment they plan on purchasing so we can see the breakdown of the $41,000. The breakdown includes a 10% contingency. There will be no trips to Armenia for this 2020-2021 project
  • another request: Lebanon is a country that really needs help. He has been talking to Father Maroun and is looking for someone that will take on a project(s) in Lebanon. His looking to obtain funding for such a project from various Cedars Clubs across Canada.
